Monthly Masque Report – July ’17

For my July masque instalment, I have a couple of fab ones to share. Ideal for giving skin some love, there is a one specifically for hydrating and calming dry and thirsty skins, plus one for all skin types to tick all the boxes. With hot weather, faux or sun tanning, makeup overload, along with the usual stresses of life, masks are ideal to address skin issues.

This month, I am featuring couple of masques/masks, both from different brands. One by Living Nature from New Zealand, along with one by Sand & Sky from Australia, both cruelty free brands using natural ingredients.

Living Nature Hydrating Gel Mask£28.50 for 50ml

I like products from this natural New Zealand brand, they are always so kind to skin, plus the products are cruelty free and ethically made with certified organic ingredients, with no animal testing. Containing Active Manuka Honey and Harakeke Flax Gel, this hydrating mask replenishes moisture levels and soothes dehydrated and dry skins. A good one for mature skins, this also helps to soften fine lines, whilst soothing and calming dull, dry skin, plus boosting skins vitality.

The formula is a lightweight gel texture, which has a subtle sweet and herby scent coming from the Manuka honey and botanical oil ingredients.

Ingredients : Aqua (water), Mel (manuka honey), Glycerin (vegetable glycerin), Sclerotium gum, Daucus carota (carrot) extract, Citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, Phormium tenax leaf juice (NZ flax gel), Xanthan gum, Hypericum perforatum (st Johns wort) oil, Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Parfum (fragrance)*, Calendula officinalis (calendula) extract**, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Leptospermum scoparium (manuka) oil, Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil. *From natural essential oils: Limonene. **Certified organic.

I find this soothing on my menopausal skin, after hot flush overload, and it helps replace moisture I have lost through the countless sweats. I use once a week (as I mask 2-3 times a week), usually after using Living Nature’s Skin Revive Exfoliant. Being a gel formula, this is refreshing and cooling on the skin, plus the gentle herb and honey fragrance is pleasurable. The honey helps heal and repair, whilst boosting skins vitality.

Usage : Apply over the face and neck, leaving on for about 20 minutes. I usually have a green tea to relax, then remove with luke warm water and a flannel. Skin is left smooth, comforted and a little more plumped from the hydration boost.

I sometimes like to use this at night, following up with massaging a couple of drops of oil or serum into the face and neck before bed. That way, skin gets a double-whammy of hydration while I sleep.

For thirsty, drier skins wanting hydration and soothing from a lightweight formula, this is a good mask full of natural nutrients. Available at Botanical Brands and also Naturisimo.

Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin™£39-90 for

I recently read that this Aussie mask was a huge sell out, with over 50,000 pots purchased in just 2 months, and a real hit on social media with many who love it. So, when I was offered a sample to try, I was happy to partake for the sake of beauty, intrigued at what all the fuss was about. I will start by saying…you simply need to try this!

According to Sand & Sky ; “Pink Australian Clay

  • Absorbs dirt & impurities like a boss
  • Draws out toxins & combats pollution
  • Restores the skin’s natural defence shield
  • Shrinks & refines pores
  • Gentle enough for sensitive skins”

Sand & Sky do not use animal testing and no chemical nasty ingredients.

Made with pink clay from Oz and infused with natural botanical ingredients, this product claims to do 5 things.. “Smooth, Relax, Detox, Cleanse & Glow“. I think most of us need a bit of help in all departments sometimes, so I gave this popular product a few workouts to see what results I could get.

Brilliant Skin™ comes with its own little masking brush supplied in the box, so if you do not own one, this is so handy. I usually apply my cream masks with a brush as you get a more precise application, plus there is less mess and waste than when using fingers.

As advised on the pot, I performed a patch test, but on the side of my neck under my hair. Having skin that can be sensitive, I was a little concerned about the pink clay formulation. Although I need not have worried, as I had no reaction at all, so was excited to get this pink clay cream on my face.

IngredientsKaolin (Australian clay), Water (Aqua), Bentonite, Aloe barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Leaf Juice ORANIC, Retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A), dl-alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu plum) Fruit Extract*, Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel), Extract, Glycyrrhiza glabra (Liquorice) Extract ‘Organic’ Punica granatum (Pomegranate) Sterols, Garcinia mangostana (Mangosteen) Extract, Centipedia Cunninghami Extract (Old mans weed)*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Undaria pinnatifida (kelp) Extract ORGANIC CI 77491 Benzyl Alcohol Phenoxyethanol Dehydroacetic , Acid Lactic Acid d-Limonene

Usage : Apply evenly to freshly cleansed skin (avoiding going too close to the eye area) using the mask brush provided, and let it dry. After about 10 mins, it will have completely dried and turned form pink to white. Remove gently with warm water and a mask sponge or flannel, and pat gently dry.

I find a clay mask wipes away more easily, if you firstly damp down the product by pressing a wet sponge or flannel over it. Then, it is easier to wipe off without dragging the skin.

Issues with spots? Try dabbing on a bit of this pink clay mask to dry them out. This also deep cleanses and purifies pores, so for congested or problematic skin, it is a helpful mask.

For a more intensive treatment, apply the mask at night before bed, following on with a serious oil, serum or night cream. This works overnight to boost results, giving skin a fabulous feel and look in the morning.

Below – Comparison shots and results, from my first time using the Brilliant Skin™ mask.

Image 1 – BEFORE, image 2 – AFTER removal, with no serum or moisturiser yet applied (no lights or filter used for images).

I was quite blown away the first time I used this mask, it’s pretty amazing! This certainly does what it says on the pot. After using, I could see and feel a difference in my skin texture, hydration, brightness, my broken capillaries seemed calmer, pores and fine lines were less visible. Overall, my skin felt softer, more relaxed and firmer. It looked almost photoshopped compared to before using, and my results are true as I do not even own photoshop!

I can quite see what all the fuss is about regarding this awesome pink product, and I would definitely recommend trying it. For amazing results it is worth spending the bucks, and a little goes a long way, making this a worthy mask in my books. So I will simply end by saying…”Thank you Sand & Sky, on behalf of my skin”!

The Brilliant Skin™ mask is available from Sand and Sky.
